Are you having a laugh?
We have recently been fortunate to continue our work with Dave’s Leicester Comedy festival, producing 2 new films, including the UK Pun Championships promo above. Whilst we love our corporate projects, it’s great to get the opportunity to include some humour in our productions, whilst supporting a brilliant international comedy festival.
We were commissioned to script and produce a short film to promote the championships, which were presented by comedian, Lee Nelson. Our brief was to come up with an idea that would give a flavour of the head-to-head nature of the competition and we pitched the idea of paying homage to Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’ music video, as featured in the film ‘8 Mile’.
Quick turnaround
The lead time for the project was very short with only days until its launch on Dave TV’s national social media channels, as well as a wider press campaign for the festival. A script and storyboard was created for approval and a sound-a-like music track was commissioned from one of our regular composers, George Odom. For the rap lyrics, we collaborated with brilliant local talent, Curtis Clacey, who also performs in the video.
Filming took place on the mean streets of Leicester with comedians Geoff Alderman and Leo Kearse preparing to face off as contestants at the event. Responses to the film have been great and the event itself was a resounding success, with Darren Walsh eventually taking this year’s title of UK Pun Champion.
What is it with Leicester and Carparks?
Our other recent collaboration with the comedy festival was this spoof news report on Leicester’s apparent obsession with carparks – following last year’s discovery of Richard III. The Comedy Festival team wanted us to create a short piece that could be played to a live audience at the launch event held at Leicester’s Demontfort Hall, and had the idea of producing something that played with the idea of carparks in Leicester – without mentioning the infamous monarch. We scripted the film and were lucky enough to work with BBC East Midlands Today reporter, Geeta Pendse to give the report some extra gravitas. It was fun to produce and a couple of the team even have cameo roles – can you spot us?
