Using video to recruit the right people gives you the ability to show candidates what it takes to be part of your team. It’s also a great way to demonstrate your company values and services to prospective clients. Here’s a recent case study of a recruitment film we produced for KH Hair.

Jasmine, an apprentice with established UK Hair Salon chain, KH Hair

A Reputation For Innovation . . .

KH Hair is a chain of national hairdressing salons, established over 80 years ago with a reputation for training high-quality apprentices. They have a passion for developing young people in preparation for a fulfilling career. The challenge they face is making parents and prospective apprentices aware of their dedicated ‘earn as you learn’ academy and its advantages over a traditional college course. Managing Director, Darren Messias explains more . . .

‘. . . we decided that we needed to take a more proactive and creatively visual approach to recruitment and came up with the idea of producing a video. After our initial meeting with MGL Media where we explained our needs to Wayne and Matt, it soon became very clear that this was going to be a real collaborative process.’

Real staff members add authenticity to the film

Laying the groundwork . . .

Our initial consultation involved talking to Darren and the team to identify the key messages and target audience for the film. We were keen to capture the essential information but also to get a sense of the personality and values of the academy, the team and the wider business. Again, Darren, with his perspective . . .

‘MGL Media quickly came back to us with a pre-production proposal where they managed to capture all the points and buzz words we wanted portraying in our videos and also suggesting the scripting service they offer, which was superb.’

KH Hair Is . . .

Whilst we knew it was vital to capture the sincerity and vitality of real members of staff and existing apprentices, we also recognised the client wanted us to deliver a slick, engaging film that would resonate with their target audience of 16-17 year olds. Our approach was to craft a script around the central concept of ‘KH Hair Is . . .’ Pre-interviews were conducted with members of the team and their responses shared with MGL Media. This allowed us to use  real thoughts and feelings as the basis for the staff interview sections. We then shaped an over-arcing narrative, with all of the nitty-gritty details delivered by a professional actor.

An actor adds slick professionalism to a scripted film

From Script To Screen . . .

For clients, producing their first professional promotional film can seem daunting, but we pride ourselves on being able to lead clients through the entire process from script to screen. That also means scheduling adequate filming time for us to be able to put staff members at ease, as well as working closely with the actor to ensure we reflect the right tone and image to the audience. Darren gives his final thoughts on the production process . . .

‘The actual production and filming days could not have gone better, as MGL Media were both professional, friendly and at the same time happy to be flexible and creative. We are absolutely delighted with the final video.’

The Finished Product . . .

Here’s the final video, now live as part of the KH Hair apprentice recruitment programme.
